Lacustrine

With each passing day, I find the place I once called home increasingly unfamiliar. As I return, I am confronted by its foreign face, people, and skyline. It is becoming one of the fastest-growing metropolitan cities in the country, yet I find the only recognizable vestige to be a permanence sustained across generations: Lakeland’s placid lakes.

Lacustrine is an electroacoustic piece that reimagines several of the lakes across Lakeland as intimate reservoirs of the community’s collective memory. For this project, commissioned and premiered by American pianist and composer Robert Fleitz for the the Swan City Piano Festival, this piece seeks to immerse the audience into the communal memory spaces of the lakes. This work was premiered on the evening of June 10th, 2022 at the Lois Cowles Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts in part with an audiovisual installation created by Brian and New Media Artist Eli Goldstone.
